    I am concerned that this otherwise very worthy contribution might be disqualified as overly exciting because of its clear access to the underground and linkage with all manner/manhole of nefarious activities.

      You’re right. One needs to be careful. That’s why we like the fact that we can see the manhole covers in a museum. It avoids the dangers you point out. Another way we would like to view manhole covers would be to take a tour — in a glass-bottom bus.
